A Memorable Experience in a Real-Estate Transaction
Just recently, I’ve had one of those “not-so-great” transactional experiences with a listing agent whom I worked with. However, instead of shedding light on a negative situation, I’d like to tell you about a positive one.
Let’s back-track a bit…
It was 2001 and I had just gotten my license. I had a few listings myself and working for a smaller brokerage at that time, I had no idea how to go about marketing them to get them sold. With no training at that time (thank goodness, I’ve came a long way since then! ;0 ) I had to think of marketing techniques outside-of-the-box to bring forth buyers.
I remember one technique I picked up after walking into a house that my buyer was very impressed with. I remember how nicely staged and picturesque everything looked…from the blinds tilted the perfect angle in every room, to the fresh scent of vanilla and the light jazz playing in the background. What stood out to me the most was the neat stack of DVDs with the virtual tour that simply stated “Paulette Greene” with her photo on the front. The home itself ended up being too small for my buyer but I took the DVD anyway and rode around with that thing in my car for weeks, trying to decide how I was going to incorporate that into my own marketing (remember, I was very “green” myself at that time).
Fast-forward 11 years, and I have a buyer moving from Highland Park to Frisco and looking for homes for sale in Starwood. Needless to say, I was excited when I saw that the listing agent was no other than Paulette Greene herself. Getting into the business, (or any business for that matter), I’m sure we all have our icons and wonder what it’s like to really work with them in person. I must also state…that I’ve worked with several teams, of which the main listing agent isn’t very involved in a transaction at all. That was not the case with this team at all, which showed why they were so successful.

We had a few …shall we say…”transactional bumps” (financing dilemmas, appraisal issues to boot!). Even with a team of 11, Paulette was never out of communication, always firm in her negotiations but never ever unfriendly, and always pushing the transaction forward. So many times we feel we are the “enemy” when negotiating with the “other side”, but that was not the case in this transaction. This team was absolutely amazing and really had the niche of making every party feel that they were in a “win-win” situation.
We initial met with Carmen Roberts (the builders husband, also on The Paulette Greene Team with Ebby Halliday) to view the home in Starwood. We were impressed with her professionalism and grace. A pushy salesperson she was not…but a closer she definitely was! Had it not been for the teamwork involved and all of us coming together to push this home-sale forward…it may not have closed.
Kudos to the Paulette Greene Team; they were amazing to work with and hope to do so again in the future!

Meadow Ridge | Lake Point Homes for Sale | Stonebridge Ranch, Mckinney, TX
Driving along Lake Forest Drive in Stonebridge Ranch in Mckinney, you can’t help but notice all of the picturesque scenery, rolling landscaping, and the beautiful homes tucked away behind the tree-lined street. If you’re looking for a home to create a backyard oasis in, that’s walking distance to exemplary-rated schools such as Glen Oaks Elementary, Dowell Middle School, or Boyd High School, (literally just North on Lake Forest–it expands the length of the street!) you’ve found it. Your options between golf-course views in Stonebridge Ranch, water views, or larger, treed lots are never-ending in this area. However…don’t let that fool you-homes in this area are not staying on the market long.
Not only does Stonebridge Ranch offer an array of amenities itself, from hiking and jogging paths, to the beach club (including the only “man-made” beach in North Texas), but has absolutely gorgeous parks as well. Take, for instance, one of my favorites: Nora Haney Park (pictured below):
Driving by this beautiful park in Mckinney, you will see various little league players practicing basketball, soccer, or football on any given week day. You’ll also see a lot of people just enjoying the atmosphere. How can you not enjoy it with a water-view like this:
Someone had the parents in mind when creating the location for this park. While the kids are playing on the basketball court, or having soccer practice, you can enjoy the water views from many of the park benches throughout the park (sometimes, I bring my laptop here to work when I need a change of atmosphere myself!).
Surrounding this little oasis of a park in Mckinney is two Subdivisions-Meadow Ridge and Lake Point. Both communities have a price-point from $200,000 to $400,000.

Many, many details and negotiations have passed since the home-inspection of my first-time buyers. Luckily, we tackled a tree falling into the roof (when the previous owner had it), bowing rafters, termites, HVAC problems, and an entire electrical panel that needed to be replaced. Once taken care of, my buyers were finally comfortable and ready to move forth to their big day of closing! This morning, I met Ben and Jerry at the home to do the final walk through. I arrived just a few minutes prior and will never forget the look on Ben’s face (or a flash of him, I might say) running across the yard in his best “Oh-What-A-Feelin’ Toyota” impression 
as I looked over my shoulder as I was unlocking the door. The fan on the patio still wasn’t working but all other major repairs were taken care of and they were happy and excited to finally call this their “home”.
A few minutes later, we met at Stewart Title in Allen, which, ironically, is located in the same building as my office (Halo Group Realty). I could see the excitement growing on Ben’s face with each hand-cramp of signing the FHA docs. Jerry, as always, had his poker-face on
, that I as always, could not tell was fear, excitement or worry of the “unknown”. They signed the docs, got a copy and proceeded out the door ready to embark on the next phase of their life. :)
What a ride this transaction was…but in a strange way, I’m going to miss it. It will definitely go down as one of my most memorable ones. I actually felt a little sad. I’m dropping a welcome home gift off this weekend to see how they are doing….and don’t forget to check back with us at the end of June as I follow up to see what they think about their new home after having time to get settled.
